What is a welding fixture?

A welding fixture holds the individual parts of a component in the correct position during welding. It ensures that angles and distances stay the same on every run and that distortion from heat input is limited. This makes it possible to produce welded assemblies repeatably and at consistent quality.

When a welding fixture pays off

As soon as a component is produced more than once, the fixture determines whether the tenth part still has the same dimensions as the first. Without a fixture, every assembly has to be aligned and tack-welded from scratch, which costs time and invites dimensional deviation.

A fixture can also pay off at small quantities if tolerances are tight or the component is prone to distortion. Whether the effort is worthwhile in your case can be assessed from the geometry, the tolerance requirements and the planned quantity.

Designed around your component

Every fixture is built for a specific component geometry. We lay out locators, stops and clamping elements so that the individual parts are unambiguously positioned and cannot be inserted incorrectly.

Accessibility matters just as much: the welding torch has to reach every seam, and the finished assembly has to come out without jamming. Both are factored into the design from the start.

Yes. We supply welding fixtures as standalone contract work, regardless of whether you otherwise buy systems from us.

From what quantity does a welding fixture pay off?

That depends less on quantity alone than on tolerances. With tight dimensional requirements or components prone to distortion, a fixture can pay off even for small series. For simple geometries without critical dimensions, it only becomes worthwhile at larger quantities.

What does Tomasic need to design a welding fixture?

The drawing of the component to be welded, the required tolerances, the intended welding process and an indication of quantity. The more precise this information, the better the fixture will fit.

Does Tomasic also manufacture the assemblies the fixture is intended for?

Yes. We manufacture welded assemblies as a service in their own right, in steel and stainless steel, certified to EN 1090 execution class EXC2. Fixture and assembly can therefore be sourced together.
